With minimal materials and spectacular views, this relaxed family retreat in Victoria’s High Country is designed to bring the outside in through texture, colour, and expansive floor-to-ceiling steel-framed windows. The home embraces simplicity, with every material chosen for its durability, beauty, and sustainability, resulting in an off-grid sanctuary full of warmth and personality. From corrugated iron cladding to recycled timber and custom steel windows and doors, each detail complements the alpine landscape, all with sustainability in mind.

Guided by passive design principles, the house maximises natural light and ventilation through our custom steel French doors and awning windows crafted from the Metro M40 system. Finished in cement grey to complement the timber floorboards, blue gum beams, olive-green VJ cladding, and Zellige Moroccan tiles, every window and door not only frames sweeping mountain views but also creates a seamless connection to the alpine garden by Phillip Johnson Landscapes.

The Metro M40 System is designed specifically for Australian conditions and can accommodate single and double glazing, with or without low-e coatings. All our windows and doors feature premium weather seals to enhance performance and comfort.

For projects that demand advanced insulation, we recommend the Secco OS2 system. The OS2 75 profile incorporates state-of-the-art thermal break technology with high-density polyurethane insulation, while still allowing for double, or triple glazing.

Engineered for durability and long-lasting performance, the M40 System is cold-rolled from a galvanized material, eliminating the need for a hot-dipped galvanization process which is often seen with the traditional W20 and W40 profiles made from a mild steel.

Steel windows and doors made from mild steel are often heavy and require additional structural support. In contrast, products made from our M40 profile are up to 35% lighter, while also being straighter and stronger than traditional steel profiles.

Steel is approximately three times stronger than aluminium and far more durable than wood or timber, which can rot or require ongoing maintenance.

The Metro M40 profile is 35% lighter than traditional steel profiles, yet stronger, allowing for larger spans of glass without compromising on structual integrity. Made from galvanized steel, the M40 System avoids common issues like warping or mill scale that can occur with heat-treated mild steel used in traditional steel windows and doors. Its smooth, flat surface requires no bog filling or sandblasting, providing a superior finish straight from the factory.
