The modernisation of this heritage home embraced sleek black steel frames, providing a simplicity that honours the Victorian facade. Fluted glass along the exterior windows provides an element of privacy and security from street traffic while filtering an abundance of natural light into the living spaces.
Incorporating large modern sliding doors with clear glass connects internal living spaces with the adjoining garden and courtyard, providing indoor-outdoor living.
The use of slim-profile steel allowed the renovation to remain respectful of the home’s original proportions while introducing a contemporary layer of performance. The strength of steel made it possible to incorporate larger glazing panels without visually overpowering the Victorian façade, ensuring the extension felt considered rather than contrasting. This balance of heritage sensitivity and modern functionality was key to the project’s success.
